In this article, we’ve done all the research, and we will take some time to explore a little more about the car manufacturing company and how they came to be the company we all know today. You might surprise at what you find out about BMW and how they began.

Humble Beginnings

The car company that we know today began as a combination of three different companies: Rapp Motorenwerke, Bayerische Flugzeug-Werke, and Fahrzeugfabrik Eisenach. However, the company was called a combo of the names, giving us Bayerische Motoren Werke. The three company combination was started in roughly 1913 to make aircraft engines, and it has since kept most of the same values for the company. One of the most important things about this company is that is survived difficult times and challenging issues during both world wars, which were right on their doorstep. They also dealt with the economic changes that came with those wars, handling them well to maintain a popular company that now manufactures luxury cars. This company also had to deal with company growth, lack of tools needed for the growth, and more. The humble beginnings have given this company a sort of endurance that has helped it stay in the spotlight for so many years.

The Logo

When the name of the company changed to the Bayerische Motoren Werke that we know today, the management was compelled to create a new and exciting logo that represented the new company and the new name. The logo was the famous trademark that we see on luxury cars today, and the imagery came from a unique location. The previous emblem for the Rapp Motorenwerke company was mashed together with a new logo, featuring a black circle with the symbol right inside. The white and blue elements are parts of the Bavarian flag, which is the origin of the company. This is why the colored flag circle sits in the middle of the logo. The 1920s brought about a new type of interpretation, saying that it resembled a rotating propeller, giving hints to the company’s humble beginnings.

The Name Change

The name of the company changed twice, once to the Bayerische Motoren Werke GmbH and once to Bayerische Motoren Werke AG. In the year 1917, much of the stock shares were held by one person. The name of the company had already been changed to Bayerische Motoren Werke GmbH, but it was officially changed to the name we know today in August of 1918. The name was then changed to BMW AG when it then entered into the world as a new company. The company has remained under this title since then, withstanding major hurdles like World War I, World War II, and the selling of the company.

Conclusion

Bayerische Motoren Werke is a company that we all know by the initials B-M-and-W. The company came from the humble beginnings of three different companies together, but the company we know and love today has been a thriving combination of all three put toward one focus. This feat of European engineering started as an airplane engine company but slowly transformed into the car manufacturing company that still makes beautiful luxury vehicles for many people throughout the world. To this day, Bayerische Motoren Werke still maintains their faithful consumers, and though they have dealt with so many hardships throughout the ages, they are still thriving throughout the world.
